Abstract

Syphilis, in its secondary stage, is a great mimic of other diseases that can present with retinochoroiditis and meningitis. Syphilitic neuroretinitis presents as papillitis, with peripapillary flame-shaped heamorrhages, periarteriolar sheathing and stellate macular exudates [ 1 ]. At this stage, there may be the characteristic macular-papular rash of secondary syphilis with “snail-track” mouth ulcers, or the patient may be asymptomatic apart from a loss of visual acuity .
