Abstract

Chapter 6 describes the common ocular infections found in practice, for both the adnexa and globe, including bacteria, chlamydia, viruses and protozoa ( Acanthamoeba) in adults and children; fungi are covered in Chapter 7 . While some infections are mild and self-limiting, viz. viral conjunctivitis, others cause extreme pain and suffering, viz. Acanthamoeba . The latter is a good example of the need for early recognition to gain therapeutic success within one month rather than six to twelve months for a late diagnosis with various complications. Images are included to enable early identification, both within the text and Supplementary Chapter S6 .
