Abstract

Plant nutrition plays a crucial role in enhancing crop productivity and safeguarding food security for the rapidly growing global population. The practice of using chemical and biological fertilisers, along with pesticides, remains fundamental to the modern agricultural economy. However, the prevalent use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides often leads towards unintended negative consequences, including environmental degradation and disruption of ecological balance. While biofertilizers and biopesticides help mitigate some of these adverse effects, they too have certain limitations that must be considered in their application. The integration of nanomaterials in agriculture is revolutionizing rural industries by enhancing productivity, sustainability, and efficiency. Nanotechnology offers innovative solutions to many agricultural challenges, from improving crop yields and soil health to reducing the use of chemical inputs. This emerging technology enables precise delivery of fertilizers, pesticides, and water, leading to increased efficiency and minimized environmental impact. Nanomaterials can also enhance plant resilience to diseases and stress, while aiding in real-time monitoring of crop health through nano-sensors. The adoption of nanotechnology in rural agricultural practices holds transformative potential, promoting sustainable farming, improving food security, and fostering economic growth in rural areas. This paper discusses the innumerable applications of nanomaterials in agriculture and their role in advancing rural industries towards a more sustainable and technologically driven future.
