Abstract

This chapter deals with the toxins of marine fishes and their therapeutic potentials. Aspects such as toxins of marine elasmobranch and teleost fishes and their therapeutic potentials; and the biomedical applications of TTX derived from the bacteria associated with the marine pufferfish are given in detail. The bioactive compounds of marine fish are well known to support human body growth and function with their therapeutic potentials. These compounds help alleviate as well as manage disease conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, obesity, brain function disorders, immune system disorder, and oxidative stress ( Awuchi et al., 2022 ; Santhanam et al., 2022 ). However, the toxins present in the marine elasmobranch and teleost fishes and their therapeutic potentials are receiving greater attention only now.
