Abstract

This chapter explores the transformative implications of Industry 4.0—an era marked by the integration of AI, IoT, Big Data, CPS, and automation—on global industries, human capital, and sustainability. It emphasizes that the digital revolution is not solely technological but deeply human-centric, requiring continuous upskilling, digital literacy, and inclusive development to bridge the digital divide. Sustainability is examined through a triple-bottom-line framework—environmental, social, and economic dimensions—highlighting how digital technologies can simultaneously boost efficiency and pose new ethical and ecological risks. Corporate responsibility in the digital economy is explored with a focus on ethical AI, data governance, stakeholder engagement, and sustainable innovation. Case studies and real-world examples, including Tesla and Unilever, illustrate successful applications of Industry 4.0 technologies to achieve sustainability goals. The chapter concludes by stressing the need for future-oriented, inclusive strategies that embed sustainability, equity, and ethics at the core of digital transformation.
