Abstract

In this chapter we will discuss the design of a high-pressure high temperature (HPHT) well. It is actually a summary of the design and decision-making process. First, we will define this particular type of well. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate defines a well as a HPHT well if: it is deeper than 4000 m, or its reservoir pressure exceeds 10 000 psi, or the temperature exceeds 150°C.
