Abstract

A beam or rod is a slender elastic body where the variations of all properties are negligible across the cross section. A beam can admit bending moment, axial force, and transverse shear. There are tens of thousands of publications on the vibrations of rods and beams. Notable treatises include Gorman (1975) , Magrab (1980) , and Karnovsky and Lebed (2004a , 2004b ), where many exact solutions are given.
