Study of Emulsion Nanofluid Membrane
Abstract
Emulsion nanofluid membranes (ENMs) represent an innovative advancement in membrane-based separation technologies, integrating the structural and functional advantages of emulsified phases with the stabilizing and interactive properties of nanofluids. Such dynamic membranes take advantage of water-in-oil-in-water (W/O/W) structures stabilized by nanoparticles ( https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> Al 2 O 3 https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href=" https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003628071/4cf83c91-4355-4be6-ba21-1579c8f56e0b/content/ieq0765.tif "/> or https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" display="inline"> Fe 3 O 4 https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink" xlink:href=" https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003628071/4cf83c91-4355-4be6-ba21-1579c8f56e0b/content/ieq0766.tif "/> ) to significantly increase interfacial area, stability, and improved mass transfer kinetics. ENMs exhibit better mechanical and chemical stability and surfactant tolerance as compared to traditional Emulsion Liquid Membranes (ELMs). Additionally, ENMs exhibit better removal of organic and inorganic pollutants like dyes, pharmaceuticals, and heavy metals, when compared to standard ELMs. In this chapter, a detailed description of the mass principles, fabrication strategies, transport mechanisms, and application domains of ENMs, with emphasis on their advantages, operational challenges, and future directions in environmental remediation and advanced separation science.
