Strategy for Sustainability

Sustainability has become a foundational element of current economic strategies. Clearly, it is driving a global shift toward practices that balance environmental stewardship, social equity, and economic viability. Thus, sustainability-oriented strategies require a paradigm shift in economic models to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, resource depletion, anticipated financial risks, and social inequality. Therefore, this chapter highlights sustainability from a strategic perspective by emphasizing the integration of environmental, social, and governance (ESG), and economic dimensions into business practices. It also explores the relationship between sustainability-oriented strategies and innovative economic models designed to be implemented as core strategies for tackling climate change, socioeconomic inequalities, and resource depletion while generating sustainable returns through various sustainable financing products. Consequently, this chapter begins by outlining several strategies, such as corporate sustainability strategy, circular economy strategy, and sustainable development strategy, which facilitate businesses in maintaining and implementing sustainability. In addition, this chapter discusses recent innovative economic models, such as the green finance sustainable financing model, the impact investing financing model, and the circular economy financing model, which support strategies for implementing sustainability. Despite the importance of applying sustainable strategies for a better future, numerous challenges, including economic constraints, regulatory issues, policy gaps, and limited collaboration between the public and private sectors, must be addressed through strong governance, technological innovations, and financial incentives. Governments, policymakers, and officials can utilize the sustainable strategies discussed to develop new sustainable policies, technology-driven innovative tools, and regulatory frameworks for initiating new sustainability-focused projects and generating funds for financing sustainability.
