Intelligent Analytics for Environmental Sustainability and Energy Optimization
Abstract
This chapter advances the concept called the Adaptive Eco-Energy Nexus AEEN that seeks to redefine how intelligent analytics may be directed to drive environmental sustainability and optimization of energy utilization. The methods utilized in such approaches are essentially data-driven anomaly detection, predictive modeling, and prescriptive analytics. However, the AEEN includes socio-ecological parameters, human behavioral trends, as well as regional climate variables into one adaptive feedback system. The AEEN architecture is based on a multimodal data fusion architecture, fusing in real-time inputs from multiple sources: industrial equipment sensors, Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled building management systems, public transportation networks, and ecological markers such as air quality indices and biodiversity indicators. The application of advanced machine learning (ML) algorithms allows the dynamic capturing of interdependencies between energy consumption patterns and local ecological processes. An important differentiator for AEEN is its community-based governance structure. Instead of deciding through top-down edicts, AEEN allows feedback loops wherein local stakeholders—residents, small businesses, and city planners—submit suggestions to modify the scenarios. Such modifications might include rescheduling operational times, adopting new clean technologies, or adding incentives encouraging behavior change. ML models within AEEN compute optimal strategies in response to these local priorities: preserving wetland habitats, for example, or making cities cleaner in the air. The AEEN synthesizes ecological knowledge, behavioral data, and energy systems intelligence. Therefore, it forms a paradigm shift in bridging the gap between environmental goals and energy demands.
