Abstract

The research and findings in the previous chapters go beyond the scope of earlier investigations into professional ethics in the building and construction industry. In addition to considering the roles, contributions, and challenges that are faced by a wide range of professions engaged in the design, construction, and management of multi-storey, multi-owned apartment buildings, they provide in-depth examinations of the integrity systems of individual professions and of the overall construction integrity system – a complex matrix of interactions that influence professional integrity in the residential apartment sector. This concluding chapter highlights the major insights and key findings. While all professions in the building industry have integrity systems in place, they are compromised by fragmentation of roles, risk shifting, commercial pressures, and poor understanding of the role of professionals in the integrity system. We identify some ways to reverse this trend as part of a complex and difficult challenge.
