Abstract

As we currently know, there are both positive and negative visual phenomena that patients can experience each with their own unique characteristics. This chapter elaborates the distinction between the two types of positive visual phenomena. The two types are illusions and hallucinations, and each is discussed in depth regarding their distinct individual clinical presentations. Not only does this chapter shine light on major conditions such as Charles Bonnet Syndrome (CBS), but it attempts to elaborate on patient experiences and conditions regarding what they can expect to go through. It is still debated whether CBS is a true hallucination or a pseudohallucination. We dispel the idea that CBS is a pseudohallucination. Ultimately, this chapter displays the importance of understanding how we can further enhance what we know about our perceptions of the world around us.
