Abstract

Semiaquatic earthworms are categorized by the presence of a unique feature, peculiarly expanded epidermal structures near the clitellum, referred to as “wings. In this chapter, we discuss semiaquatic earthworms, highlighting semiaquatic earthworm fauna both globally, mostly distributed across Southeast Asia, and those reported from India under genus Glyphidrilus Horst, 1889. Seven species have been recorded in India: Glyphidrilus annandalei Michaelsen, 1910; Glyphidrilus elegans Rao, 1922 ; Glyphidrilus fluviatilis Rao, 1922 ; Glyphidrilus gangeticus Gates, 1958 ; Glyphidrilus papillatus Rosa, 1890 ; Glyphidrilus spelaeotes Stephenson, 1924 ; and Glyphidrilus tuberosus Stephenson, 1916 .
