Abstract

This chapter includes a case study of the green wall filtration system, which demonstrates how smart solutions are altering water management in a variety of sectors. By combining bio-based filtration with Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled monitoring and renewable energy, this system highlights the use of intelligent technology in sustainable water purification. The case study focuses on drip water filtering for effective contaminant removal, real-time sensor-based monitoring for automated quality control. The integration of smart monitoring and automation improves system efficiency, lowers operational costs, and ensures long-term sustainability. A comparison with conventional systems shows considerable gains observed in water conservation, energy efficiency, and environmental impact. An entire green wall bio-based filtration system with an integrated intelligent system as part of a living lab concept was designed and developed into a fully functional smart system. The system took the lake water at the premises as reusable for non-consumable activities such as gardening applications. This study sheds light on the significance of smart solutions in tackling contaminated water concerns and its reuse to turn the water table, presenting a scalable and flexible paradigm for urban, industrial, and agricultural applications. With a recovery of 85% of the inlet water and 90% removal of solids, the developed green wall makes it adoptable to the reuse of water, which is currently used for gardening and non-consumptive activities. Equally with a pH value of 6.5 and a moisture range of 65% the plant growth is evident while the filtration is taking place. Closed-loop control with the IoT-enabled sensors enabled real-time monitoring of the water level, flow rate, allowing for dynamic adjustments and predictive maintenance. These findings confirm the capacity of the system to maintain water quality, conserve resources, and operate sustainably, a step toward sustainable modular green wall bio-filtrations, committed to addressing the challenge of SDG6.
