Bangalore's Smart Cities
Abstract
Smart cities are at the forefront of integrating electric vehicles (EVs) into urban infrastructure, utilizing technology and data analytics to enhance adoption. However, integrating Internet of Things (IoT) cybersecurity is crucial to ensure the EV infrastructure’s secure deployment and operation. This study explores the role of IoT cybersecurity in safeguarding EV charging networks, which are connected to real-time monitoring and management systems for optimizing station placement, monitoring usage patterns, and adjusting services based on demand. While improving efficiency, these systems also expose critical data to cybersecurity risks. Ensuring secure data transmission, charging station authentication, and user privacy is essential to protect against cyber threats. The study also examines monthly trends of Air Quality Index (AQI), traffic density, and EV charging station usage in 2024, revealing significant seasonal fluctuations. AQI peaks in warmer months, particularly June (135), reflecting the correlation between increased traffic and poorer air quality. Traffic density is highest in June (610), which correlates with the demand for EV charging stations, with 30 stations reached in the same month. However, charging station usage declines in cooler months, such as November ( 18 ), suggesting reduced vehicle activity. The findings highlight the importance of optimizing EV infrastructure to align with traffic patterns and enhance air quality, while also addressing IoT cybersecurity challenges. Ensuring secure, efficient EV deployment will strengthen urban mobility systems, fostering sustainable, clean transportation solutions.
