Abstract

An evolving future for decision-making, especially data-driven decision-making, is merging machine learning (ML) with the Internet of Things (IoT), an area in which intelligent automation and predictive analytics are conjoined. IoT provides super large amounts of data in real time from connected devices, while ML equips and allows some sort of capacity to interpret, learn, and get meaningful insights from this available data. This chapter discusses some of the basic concepts of IoT and ML together in integrated terms to improve and generalize applications in efficiency, automation, and intelligence across various sectors. A comprehensive case study is provided to prove the point that ML models can be applied to real-time data obtained through IoT networks for performance improvement and decision-making. The chapter also discusses benefits, challenges, and future trends in IoT–ML convergence, which gives a complete meaning of this innovative technology.
