Abstract

What does an assistant professor actually do? After describing an overview of the multiple hats that an assistant professor wears, each specific job is described, from setting up a research vision and a research laboratory, being a scientist and researcher in a community and writing and obtaining grants, being a lecturer, conducting service to the university, school, or the community, performing administrative tasks, and communicating to the broader public. An assistant professor is organized and makes plans, in particular to progress towards tenure.
