Harnessing the power of perovskite solar cells
Abstract
PSCs, or perovskite solar cells, have rapidly emerged as a groundbreaking photovoltaic (PV) technology thanks to their high power conversion efficiency (PCE), low production costs, and modifiable optoelectronic features. They are a promising substitute for traditional silicon-based solar cells as they can be processed utilizing low-temperature solution techniques. Advancements in different engineering materials, design, durability, and stability have been made since their inception. These advancements also paved the way toward commercialization. In this chapter, a comprehensive overview of the latest developments in PSCs, including strategies for scalable manufacture, stability-boosting techniques, and efficiency improvements, is discussed. It also explores innovative techniques such as interface modifications, additive engineering, and the use of novel charge transport materials to reduce energy losses. Additive engineering, tandem cell integration, and new charge transport materials are important subjects that all lead to improved durability and performance. As scientists strive to overcome current obstacles, PSCs continue to show enormous promise for broad use in the renewable energy industry.
