Case studies on cockpit design
Abstract
Previous chapters described many theoretical aspects of designing intelligent user interaction with a few examples of mixed reality, information retrieval and visualization systems. Chapter 9 discussed applications of human–robot interaction. This chapter will describe three case studies on cockpit design, where design decisions often play a role between life and death. There are numerous examples where a seemingly minor error by an operator led to a fatal disaster. Similarly, there are scopes for integrating new technology that can bring strategic advantage to a product, company or even a nation.
