Abstract

Electromagnetic engineering, RF, and communication devices have a major effect on the environment. Development of green RF and communication devices can significantly reduce air and water pollution. Moreover, electromagnetic energy harvesting can be employed to produce green electrical energy. This chapter provides basic theory and a short introduction to electromagnetic, microwave, and communication engineering that is crucial in the development of green RF and communication devices. Transmission and receiving of information in microwave frequencies is based on the propagation of electromagnetic waves. Electric and magnetic fields join as one field in most forms of radiation. The result is called an electromagnetic field (EMF).
