Abstract

Mobile communication, 5G, RFID and IOT industries have experienced continuous growth in the last decade. There is an increasing demand for wearable sensors, RFID tags and devices. Wearable technology has several applications in personal wireless communication, IOT, RFID, sport and medical devices, as presented in [ 1 – 8 ]. A number of medical devices and systems have been developed to monitor patient health, as presented in several books and papers [ 1 – 44 ]. Electrical characteristics of human tissues are discussed in [ 45 – 46 ]. The electrical characteristics of human tissues are used to design wearable antennas and sensors. Wearable technology provides a powerful new tool to medical services, surgical rehabilitation services and IOT systems. Wireless body area networks (WBANs) can record electrocardiograms, measure body temperature and blood pressure, measure heartbeat rate, arterial blood pressure, electro-dermal activity and other healthcare parameters. Wearable devices will be in the next decade an important part of individuals’ daily lives. RFID technology and devices are employed as wearable devices. In this chapter RFID technology and RFID antennas are presented. RFID technology and antennas have been presented in numerous publications [ 47 – 53 ].
