Abstract

In this chapter, the focus shifts to the societal and cultural stigmas surrounding mental health in China. It explores how traditional beliefs often equate mental illness with personal weakness and the specific barriers that prevent young adults in China from seeking psychological help. Despite growing awareness, stigma and systemic obstacles continue to hinder access to care, perpetuating a cycle of silence and emotional suffering. The chapter examines the culture-specific stigma, social and familial pressures, gender-specific stigma, and inadequate education in the context of China.
