Abstract

This chapter deals with the improvement of road safety in the form of advanced technologies including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and fuzzy logic. First, it investigates the importance of road safety to the society through reduction in fatalities, lessened economic loss, and improvement in public health, and then addresses the challenges posed by the conventional road safety system, which often fails to adapt itself to the requirements of modern traffic. Followed by applications of AI in traffic predictions, accident detection, and even incorporation into autonomous vehicles. Fuzzy logic systems are also discussed in order to improve decision-making for real-time traffic management and accident prevention. The last discussion includes an opportunity to focus on advanced sensors and what is termed “analytics” to improve road safety with the emphasis on technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning (ML), and driver behavior monitoring. Lastly, the integration of smart city initiatives with AI-driven safety systems is expected to pave the way for creating a safer, more efficient road network in the future.
