Abstract

The rate at which urbanization is advancing, along with the rising density of vehicles, has created a crisis for the historically redesigned traffic management systems. This chapter outlines how artificial intelligence (AI) and fuzzy logic technologies have revolutionized traffic management systems to facilitate real-time decision-making, adaptive control, and predictive analytics within intelligent transportation networks. The author examines key AI techniques such as machine learning, deep learning, reinforcement learning, and computer vision, along with their integration with Internet of Things (IoT) and smart sensing devices to improve traffic flow, alleviate congestion, and prevent accidents. Furthermore, the chapter will emphasize how fuzzy logic can address dynamic and uncertain traffic scenarios by offering flexible and human-like reasoning abilities. Through practical case studies, the chapter illustrates these success stories with evaluations of their environmental, societal, and operational advantages. Ultimately, future directions are emphasized with a focus on autonomous vehicles, edge AI, and sustainable traffic management practices.
