Abstract

Nowadays, the impact of animation on visual culture has been sustained by many authors, researchers and the industry itself, as the digital shift has expanded its presence within the moving image in general. Manovich (2001) warned a couple of decades ago that all moving images are a form of animation. This omnipresence of the medium is not only an overstatement of the discipline, as the consequences of digitization in visual culture are enormous. To understand the fluctuating capacities that the ongoing moving image potentially has, professionals and researchers working on animation must be aware of the consequences that entail the historical continuum from pre-digital animation to digital animation production. And this is the aim of this text: knowing where we come from will help us to see with new eyes where we are now.
