Development of Nickel-Based Alloy Coatings and Claddings
Abstract
This chapter discusses the advancements of nickel-based alloy coatings and claddings, mainly focusing on processing methods, microstructural evaluation, and performance characteristics. The processes, such as thermal spray coating techniques, thin coating methods, laser cladding, plasma transferred arc (PTA) cladding, microwave cladding, arc-assisted welding processes are assessed for their ability to provide better microstructural and mechanical properties. The vital role of process parameters in developing enhanced microstructural and mechanical properties is systematically reviewed. The inclusion of ceramic reinforcements and other alloying elements, which contribute to the performance through solid solution strengthening and dispersion effects, is discussed. The treatments, including remelting and thermal treatments, are discussed for their role in the enhancement of grain refinement. The present chapter further highlights the computational modeling importance and advanced microstructural characterization for high performance in major industrial applications.
