Abstract

This chapter explores the future direction in indoor air quality (IAQ) research with a primary focus on bioaerosols. During the COVID-19 pandemic, to understand the airborne microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, and viruses) have become an urgent need as they are directly linked to disease transmission. The central theme of the discussion is about identifying the critical knowledge gaps. Despite the growing evidence linking the bioaerosols with the respiratory health issues, there have been limited studies on indoor studies. Furthermore, the complex interactions between the bioaerosol and therapeutants are not fully understood. This makes it challenging to develop precise safety strategies. In order to address these challenges, this chapter emphasizes the need for adopting an integrated IAQ management system.
