Abstract

MXenes are a versatile class of two-dimensional materials with exceptional mechanical, electronic, and optical properties, positioning them as promising candidates for diverse technological applications. Additionally, the intrinsic limitations of pristine MXenes, such as oxidation sensitivity and structural instability, can be effectively addressed by forming composites with other materials. This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of the synthesis strategies employed to fabricate MXene-based composites with metal oxides, polymers, and various organic compounds. These hybrid systems often exhibit improved stability, enhanced catalytic activity, and broader functional capabilities. Emphasis is placed on the industrial scalability of MXene-based materials, with particular focus on green and sustainable synthesis approaches to facilitate environmentally responsible commercialization. Despite notable advancements, key challenges remain, including optimizing interfacial compatibility, ensuring biosafety, improving post-synthetic storage stability, and advancing eco-friendly production methods. Addressing these issues through future research will be critical to fully explore the potential of MXene-based composites in real-world applications.
