Abstract

Flexible and wearable sensors are rapidly emerging as pivotal technologies across various domains, including personalized healthcare and human-machine interaction, environmental monitoring, and soft robotics. The development of high-performance, durable, and comfortable sensing platforms requires innovative materials with outstanding electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. This chapter provides an in-depth exploration of how MXene composites can meet these requirements. The discussion begins by introducing the fundamentals of MXenes, highlighting their unique two-dimensional structure, synthesis methods, and remarkable properties, such as excellent electrical conductivity, inherent mechanical flexibility, and versatile surface chemistry. This includes advanced strain and pressure sensors for movement detection, temperature and humidity sensors for physiological monitoring, gas sensors for environmental analysis, and electrochemical biosensors for rapid diagnosis. This chapter concludes by addressing the present challenges in MXene composite sensor development, such as long-term stability and scalable manufacturing while outlining promising future trajectories and the immense potential of MXene-enabled technologies to reshape the landscape of wearable electronics.
