Our Polluted Planet: Challenges and the Urgent Need for Sustainable Solutions
Abstract
This comprehensive review focuses on the application of MXene composites in addressing environmental pollution, a critical global issue. With the continuous deterioration of the environment due to industrialization and urbanization, the demand for effective and sustainable pollution mitigation strategies is urgent. MXene composites, characterized by their unique two-dimensional structure, high electrical conductivity, large specific surface area, and rich surface chemistry, have shown great potential in environmental remediation. The review begins with an in-depth analysis of the current status of air and water pollution, highlighting the limitations of traditional pollution treatment methods. In terms of applications, MXene composites are demonstrated to be effective in air pollution control and water pollution treatment. However, challenges in synthesis scalability, stability, and environmental and toxicological risks still need to be overcome. Future research directions toward multifunctional design and green production are also proposed. Overall, MXene composites hold great promise for sustainable environmental solutions, but further interdisciplinary research is required to fully realize their potential.
