Abstract

Advancements in biotechnology, with solid sustainability practices, have had an immense impact on the advancement of botanical extracts. The present chapter looks into the understanding of the changing ecological aspect of botanical extraction and standardization, highlighting the inclusion of green technologies like supercritical fluid extraction, ultrasound-assisted techniques, microwave-assisted extraction, and enzyme-assisted extraction. With modern progress—artificial intelligence (AI)-driven optimization, smart sensors, and automation—the botanical products&s; yield, consistency, and environmental integrity have all increased. Attention has also been paid to the progress in phytochemical standardization and quality control, as well as on safety assessment based on the power tools like metabolomics, chemometrics, and blockchain. It also features such a place of emphasis owed to the growing omics and systems biology involvement in the discovery of new bioactive compounds and synergistic interactions in botanical matrices. The issue of biodiversity conservation and fair bioprospecting practices is discussed in the theory of ethical sourcing and sustainability. It is proven that applications of botanical extracts in pharmaceuticals, functional foods, cosmeceuticals, and agriculture will have a wide impact on global health and ecological problems. The chapter goes further as well to look at the regulatory landscape and identify the key commercial opportunity, and discuss global market trends and innovation pathways. However, this chapter outlines a general way by which technology, sustainability, and interdisciplinary collaborations will impact the future of botanical extract development. It provides a strategy for the researchers, the industry leaders, and the policymakers.
