Elliptic Partial Differential Equations and Grid Arrangement Strategies
Abstract
This chapter presents the theory and computational strategies for solving elliptic partial differential equations (PDEs). Emphasis is placed on the global dependence of elliptic PDEs on boundary conditions and their smooth, non-local behavior. The chapter compares staggered and collocated grid arrangements, detailing their requirements for correct setup of the pressure–velocity coupling.
