A Virtual Human-Centered Design Method to Support New Developments in Vehicle Automation
Abstract
This chapter presents a Human–System Integrative (HSI) approach based on virtual simulations to support the human-centered design of future Advanced Driving Aid Systems (ADAS) on vehicle automation. To better integrate future end-users’ needs since the earliest stages of the design process, a model of the car driver was connected with a simulation tool of ADAS, providing an integrative Virtual Human-Centered Design (V-HCD) platform. From this digital twin, it is expected to virtually design, prototype, and then evaluate future driving aids and vehicle automation technologies, by jointly considering system engineering and human factor issues from combined simulations. This chapter aims to illustrate how this approach, based on a virtual model of future end-users, may support the V-design process commonly shared in system engineering to progress toward a Human–System Integrative design method of future ADAS.
