Abstract

While traditional systems engineering has focused on the development of technological systems of interest and human system integration has gone some way to incorporating human elements, the organizational aspects around managing change in organizational systems have remained somewhat overlooked. This chapter outlines a new measurement for assessing the readiness levels of organizational systems alongside human readiness and technology readiness levels using the Organizational Systems Change and Readiness for Technology Introduction (OSCAR-TI) framework. Using the adoption of virtual reality (VR) training in medical education as a case study, this chapter shows how organizational readiness may be measured and then used to assess progress and plan and design the future system state. The proposed methodology will be useful to HSI practitioners, systems designers, and end-users in managing the inevitable changes inherent in organizations.
