Geometric Representation of Stress
Abstract
A symmetric second-order tensor can be decomposed into two symmetric tensors of the same order. The matrix of the first tensor has non-null components only on the principal diagonal, while the second tensor has its principal diagonal elements reduced by the magnitudes of the components of the first tensor. This decomposition is fundamental, as it allows for the separate analysis of the specific characteristics of each individual mathematical object.
