Abstract

Origami allows us to create a wide variety of shapes, but most of these designs are completed by repeatedly folding the paper flat. Even models that appear three-dimensional are typically folded flat up until the final steps. For example, in the traditional Japanese origami crane, all steps except for spreading the wings involve flat folds. In this way, folding paper flat is a fundamental operation in origami, and this process is called flat-folding .
