Implementing Robotics and Generative AI in Healthcare: Challenges and Opportunities
Abstract
The combination of robotics and generative AI has the potential to change the healthcare industry for the better, improve patient outcomes, make clinical workflows more efficient, and boost overall performance. Robotics and AI could improve the utility of hospitals and healthcare systems, but there are some big problems that need to be solved first. This chapter discusses the pros and cons of using robotics and AI in healthcare, with a focus on what is most important to researchers, doctors, and health policy makers. More and more hospitals are using these technologies for surgery, medical testing, patient recovery, and administration. In the best case, these technologies can help doctors and nurses make quick and accurate decisions, follow standard care protocols for procedures of average difficulty, and spend more time with patients. But some issues need to be solved when it comes to patient privacy, ethics, system interoperability, and training and education for hospital staff as robots and AI become more common in hospitals and healthcare systems. If healthcare systems can tackle these issues, they can improve health and care processes, increase patient satisfaction, and make healthcare more efficient and effective. Ultimately, this would benefit society as a whole.
