Magnetic Mirror System
Abstract
A magnetic mirror system is a type of magnetic confinement fusion device used to contain plasma in a magnetic field. The basic design of a magnetic mirror system consists of two end mirrors and a central region where the plasma is confined. The end mirrors are shaped like a magnetic bottle and create a magnetic field that is strongest at the mirror points and weaker in the central region. The magnetic field acts as a barrier that prevents plasma from escaping. The central region is where the plasma is confined and heated to the point where fusion reactions can occur. The plasma is heated by a variety of methods, including radio waves, microwaves, and neutral particle beams.
