Abstract

This bibliometric study analyses 2,202 Scopus publications (2006–2025) on AI-driven digital transformation, revealing exponential growth—from single-digit annual outputs to 635 in 2024, fuelled by technological advances and pandemic-driven digitalization. The field is interdisciplinary, dominated by Business/Management (56%). Journal articles (56%) signify maturity, yet few reviews (4%) indicate persistent fragmentation. Three growth phases emerge: early exploration (2006–2015), acceleration (2016–2019), and explosive expansion (2020–2024), with generative AI driving an 88% YoY surge in 2024. Key gaps include geographical disparities, disciplinary silos (business vs. technical perspectives), and underrepresentation in applied sectors. The study calls for systematic knowledge synthesis, equitable global collaboration, and deeper technical-organizational integration. While the field shows academic maturity, strategic efforts are needed to address fragmentation and holistically assess AI&s;s societal impacts.
