Comprehensive thermal evaluation of jet turbine blades utilizing ansys simulation
Abstract
This study aims to identify an optimal material for jet turbine blades with enhanced thermal dissipation capabilities to minimize wear and performance degradation. Thermal analyses were conducted on three nickel-based superalloys: CMSX-4, Rene 80, and Inconel 738. Inconel 738 is noted for its high-temperature oxidation resistance; Rene 80 offers excellent creep-rupture strength; and CMSX-4, a single-crystal alloy, provides superior thermal fatigue resistance. CAD models were developed using SolidWorks and analyzed under steady-state thermal conditions in ANSYS 2021 to evaluate temperature distribution, pressure, and heat flux. Comparative assessment focused on operational stability and defect mitigation, particularly thermal cracking. Among the materials tested, Inconel 738 demonstrated the highest heat flux, indicating superior heat dissipation. The outcome from the research support the selection of Inconel 738 for applications requiring high thermal resistance and structural integrity i.e. in high-temperature aerospace environments, offering valuable insights for the design and development of next-generation turbine blades operating under extreme thermal loads.
