Abstract

Medication adherence is critical for effective healthcare, especially for elderly patients and individuals with chronic conditions. This paper presents the Medicine Intake Alarm, an IoT-based smart system designed to ensure timely medication consumption through embedded automation and real-time monitoring. The system features a programmable tray ejection mechanism, IR-based hand detection, buzzer alerts, and GSM notifications for caregivers, providing multi-layered reminders to enhance compliance. Built using ESP32 microcontrollers, GSM modules, RTC, and sensors, the device synchronizes with a cloud backend for schedule management and offers a user-friendly interface for customization. Developed in Embedded C/C++, the system achieves high accuracy in scheduled dose delivery and caregiver notifications. Future enhancements include AI-powered adherence tracking, multi-compartment tray support, and voice-based alerts. This solution demonstrates significant potential to improve patient independence, reduce missed doses, and enable remote caregiver supervision in real-world healthcare settings.
