Abstract

This chapter discusses the complexity of multifaceted mega LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) projects, which have complex stakeholder involvement in the everyday management of these huge ventures, which add even more complexity to the process. This is not only about the physical infrastructure but also about the coordination between various stakeholders, including governments, environmental groups, suppliers, JVPs, and local communities. Benchmarking these projects solely in the initiation phase (Assess/initiate phase only) is inadequate as the project matures through the phases of the Scope of Works (SoW), it becomes more visible making the original benchmarking data insufficient and unable to be utilised. As the SoW evolves throughout the phases, continuing to rely on outdated benchmarking data can contribute to slippages in the schedule and increased costs. Consequently, this can cause misalignments in how organisations plan to execute and manage mega LNG projects. Such misalignments can undermine the organisation’s ability to manage these multifaceted endeavours. Identifying the challenges associated with outdated SoW in mega LNG projects requires a comprehensive approach that surpasses benchmarking. Therefore, ensuring that the SoW is regularly updated and shared with all relevant stakeholders, including benchmarking houses, is crucial for maintaining accuracy and alignment.
