Abstract

Mobile IP is an IETF standard (defined in [ RFC5944 ] for Mobile IPv4 and in [ RFC6275 ] for Mobile IPv6) that specifies mobility mechanisms allowing a Mobile IP node to move from its Home Network to another network (a Foreign Network ), while retaining the permanent IP address originally assigned to it by the Home Network, and maintaining connectivity with the Home Network while on the Foreign Network. The Home Network assigns the permanent routable unicast IP address to the Mobile Node (called the Home IP Address ); it is the network to which the Mobile Node originally belongs. A Foreign Network is the current network being visited by the Mobile Node while away from its Home Network. Mobile IP provides location-independent routing of IP packets between the Mobile Node’s Home Network and its current location (a Foreign Network) on the Internet.
