Abstract

Supplementary cementing materials (SCMs) are materials that are included in cement composites to improve effectiveness and eco-friendliness while minimizing cement consumption. The chapter covers a range of SCMs including industrial and agricultural waste and mineral powders, describing the properties of these materials and how they can enhance the strength, durability, and workability of cement composites, as well as bring benefits for reducing carbon emission related to cement production and lowering the cost of construction. Overall, the study of SCMs in cement composites is important since the incorporation of these materials can impact the quantity and type of hydrates generated, leading to variations in the volume, porosity, and durability of the resulting materials.
