Abstract

This chapter explores the integration of ceramic nanomaterials in wastewater treatment, emphasising their structural advantages, functional performance, and environmental significance. Ceramic nanomaterials including oxides, composites, and membranes exhibit superior thermal stability, chemical resistance, and mechanical strength, making them highly effective in removing a wide range of contaminants. Their unique properties such as high surface area, porosity, and catalytic activity enable efficient adsorption, filtration, and degradation of pollutants, including heavy metals, dyes, and pharmaceuticals. This chapter discusses fabrication techniques, performance comparisons with traditional materials, and recent advancements in ceramic membrane technologies. Special attention is given to challenges like membrane fouling and strategies for surface modification to enhance selectivity and durability. Moreover, it highlights the economic and ecological benefits of using ceramic nanomaterials in sustainable water treatment systems. This chapter concludes by addressing ongoing research trends, future perspectives, and the role of ceramic nanotechnology in achieving environmentally resilient and cost-effective wastewater management solutions.
