Abstract

The evolution of ceramic technology from ancient practices to advanced technology-based applications has made ceramics a vital part of industries, including electronics, environmental, and energy sectors. Their unique properties like thermal resistance, durability, and biocompatibility make ceramics indispensable for sustainability and innovation. This chapter examines the environmental impact of ceramic-based products and waste management strategies. Even though recent advances have reduced the carbon emissions associated with the use of ceramics across various sectors, a major challenge that remains is the significant emissions generated during ceramic production itself. Emphasizing recycling and waste management, this chapter highlights the need for environmental assessments to minimize carbon footprints.
