Abstract

The basic fundamentals of centrifugal pump operation are discussed in this chapter. The performance of a centrifugal pump is characterized by graphic plots showing the head (pressure) developed by the pump versus capacity (flow rate), pump efficiency versus capacity, pump brake horsepower (BHP) versus capacity, and net positive suction head (NPSH) versus capacity. These aspects are discussed in the chapter along with the system head curve. The development of a digital twin using these performance curves, as well as the application of a digital twin to predict cavitation, is also discussed.
