Abstract

The regulatory authorities have prescribed stringent environmental regulations for refinery emissions, and the need to achieve decarbonization targets requires ‘Instrumentation’ to play an important role in operating refinery in a safe, reliable, and sustainable manner. ‘Instrumentation’ is required for measuring refinery plant parameters and to control critical parameters. Further, the plant/process data plays a key role in carrying out predictive maintenance. This chapter discusses various aspects of instrumentation in the development of the IIoT model, including basic principles of measurement, selection of types of instrument, and capturing of data from DCS (distributed control system).
