Intelligent Responsive Nanoplatforms in Theragnostics
Abstract
Through the integration of therapeutic and diagnostic functions into a single nanoscale system, intelligent responsive nanoplatforms have completely transformed the field of theragnostics. These nanoplatforms use both external and internal stimuli, including pH, temperature, redox potential, light, and enzyme activity, to facilitate targeted drug delivery, real-time imaging, and on-demand therapeutic activation. By adapting to physiological changes, they increase treatment accuracy, reduce systemic toxicity, and enhance patient outcomes. This chapter looks at the essential design principles of intelligent nanoplatforms, emphasizing significant nanomaterials, including stimuli-responsive polymers, biomimetic nanoparticles, and multifunctional hybrid structures. It includes the role of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, in the optimization of nanotheragnostic applications. The chapter also discusses significant challenges such as biocompatibility, large-scale production, and regulatory obstacles that must be addressed for effective clinical translation. This chapter offers a detailed examination of recent advancements and future directions, highlighting the transformative potential of intelligent responsive nanoplatforms in personalized medicine. The ability to concurrently diagnose and treat diseases, especially in areas such as of cancer therapy, infectious diseases, and neurological disorders, places them at the leading edge of next-generation nanomedicine. Ongoing advancements in research and development indicate that these smart nanoplatforms will transform precision healthcare by providing innovative solutions to complex medical challenges.
