Abstract

In today’s digital era, information and communication technologies (ICTs) play an important role in the day-to-day life of people. Everyone is more connected through ICTs instead of face-to-face communication. Email, live streaming, social media, and other digital platforms have become integral parts of modern communication, enabling people to connect globally. This digital era has also witnessed the integration of ICTs into essential sectors such as healthcare, education, and public services. The evolution of technology leads to the upgraded products and gadgets over time. Electronic waste encompasses discarded electronic devices and gadgets, ranging from smartphones and laptops to household appliances and other electronic components. As these products become obsolete, unwanted, or reach the end of their useful life, they contribute to the growing global issue of e-waste. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt responsible e-waste management practices. Certified e-waste recyclers play a key role in ensuring that electronic devices are dismantled, recycled, and disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner as e-waste can pollute soil, water, and air, posing threats to human health, wildlife, and ecosystems if disposed improperly. This chapter outlines an overview of the impact of the improper discarding of e-waste and the proper way of recycling e-waste.
